Let this month end

One of my all-time favorite authors, science fiction or otherwise, has died, very unexpectedly. She was Octavia E. Butler, news of which can be found over at Locus, for starters. I got to meet her twice, the first time at the ALA convention in NYC almost a decade ago, the second when she was here in Rochester as part of the Rochester Reading the Same Book thingie. Each time she was gracious, cool, humble, wonderful.

Do yourself a favor and go read "Wild Seed", her masterpiece of a novel (I like it better than Kindred, but all of them are pretty wonderful).

This month seems to have been one bad thing after another. March cannot come too soon.
