Sublime

From the trip: nothing as lovely as a rainbow over the Atlantic Ocean, as widescreen as it gets.

As promised, the Top 5 CDs for 2007 (so far):
1. The Field, From Here We Go Sublime
2. Feist, The Reminder
3. Dinosaur Jr., Beyond
4. Young Galaxy, Young Galaxy
5. The White Stripes, Icky Thump

And a belated Honorable Mention: Fucked Up, Hidden World (from 2006 but just heard. Amazing hardcore from Toronto, with Owen Pallett on violin, of course)

Revised playlists coming in a week or so, still putting stuff together and getting ready for going on the road yet again (me and Sheila's annual trip to Stratford), Talk soon....

e-postcard

Testing the laptop down in Myrtle Beach (had one for a while but could never get the wireless working). Seems to be doing nicely. The family and I are having a loverly time, wish you all were here, really. I feel like I'm in Vegas, everything is pretty much larger-than-life, hyperbolic, so much food and eateries and gaudy, Best of the Beach, Best Buffet on the Beach, Best Mini-golf in the World, etc. I prefer Toronto, but the ocean is pretty cool.

Next Monday, the annual Best of the Year Mid-Year Report on the Review. The top five will be posted then, but in the meantime, I'll trickle out some honorable mentions:
Arcade Fire, Neon Bible
Do Make Say Think, You, You're a History in Rust
Apostle of Hustle, National Anthem of Nowhere
Kathy Diamond, Miss Diamond to You
Barbara Manning, Super Scissors (enough "new" stuff on here to qualify as a new album)
New Pornographers, Challengers

More later in the week....
